Refrancore  is a small village of the Basso Monferrato area located at the beginning of the "sea" of hills which from Moncalvo, through Asti, extends as far as the Langhe area and Alba.
The name of the village, Rivus ex sanguinem Francorum,  derives from a bloody battle which took place between the Lombards and the Franks close to river Rio Gaminella, whose water became red with their blood.
The municipality of Refrancore is part of the "Comunità collinare Via Fulvia" (a consortium of municipalities in a hilly area) which derives its name from the ancient Roman way) with Rocchetta Tanaro, Castello d’Annone, Cerro Tanaro and Masio.

The three main events or celebrations during the year are:

  • on Whit Sunday, the fagiolata (tipical bean soup): the origin of this celebration dates back to the Middle Ages when rich people used to give a bean soup as a present to the poor; this soup was distributed in the main square of the village, with good wine, holy grissiutin and in a happy atmosphere.
  • end of June/July, Celebration of the Finocchino, typical biscuit flavoured with anise
  • early August, Jazz concert of Dino and Franco Piana, two important musicians of the village.
